Who am I? Why should you donate?
My name is Katelyn Gillespie. I am a Family Nurse Pracitioner working at University Cancer & Blood Center. I am fundraising for the Loran Smith Cancer Center for multiple reasons. Not only does this facility do so much and makes such an impact on my patient's lives, it has profoundly touched my own family's life.
My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was a small child. She battled breast cancer for 9 years. In fact I don't remember a time my aunt did not have breast cancer or had her own hair. You see, breast cancer to me as a child, was just something she dealt with. It was a disease, just like someone may have hypertension or diabetes. I never thought it was something that could or would actually over take her life.
During this time the Loran Smith Center was absolutely monumental in her life. It provided her a place to escape, as well as a place to ask questions. They helped her get numerous wigs, lymphedema sleeves, and prosthetics. This was such a blessing in not only her life, but also my family's. We knew that she had an outlet to help her. Thankfully cancer is such an uncharted territory for so many patients; therefore, there are lots of questions and feelings. Having the Loran Smith Center there to help navigate the process and encourage on the journey is absolutely crucial.
That's why I am donating and volunteering my time, to ensure that the Loran Smith Center is there for other patients and families who have to fight and endure this journey. Will you help me?
