Discovery Through Clinical Research and Trials
Piedmont Research Institute
Since its founding in 2017, the Piedmont Research Institute (PRI) has supported Piedmont physicians who are pushing the boundaries of medical research and discovery.
We work to open doors to hope and give patients access to new treatments long before they are widely available, setting the standard of care for tomorrow while providing novel, leading-edge care today. We are a globally recognized center for clinical research, and we’re just getting started.
Our research focuses on the early detection of diseases, the exploration of safety and efficacy of new prevention methods, treatments and devices, and enhancing quality of care to help improve outcomes for our patients. We have dedicated teams of physician researchers, research specialists, and a portfolio of clinical trials—all working in tandem to help achieve Piedmont’s research goals.

Revealing Possibilities, Opening Doors to Hope
1,392 patients
enrolled in clinical trials at Piedmont in 2025.
357 active clinical trials
conducted across Piedmont at the end of 2025.
200+ providers
are conducting research at Piedmont.
Every medical research initiative includes patients and research professionals. At Piedmont, because we are a non-academic research institution, we connect those groups much sooner in the research process, giving our patients access to ground-breaking therapies while helping our research partners conduct clinical trials that lead to new standards in medical care. Our research approach is guided by several principles:
Patient-centered care
Multidisciplinary collaboration
Quality and safety
Efficiency and expediency
Research In Action
Clinical research opens doors to hope—changing lives and revealing possibilities that otherwise may never have been discovered. Each day, PRI physicians and medical professionals are hard at work exploring new frontiers in medicine, all with the ultimate goal of discovering new technologies and treatments to give patients at Piedmont and beyond the most effective care possible.
And for people like Janelle James, a clinical research nurse and Piedmont patient, research can lead to new hope and a second chance at life.
